The Art of Listening

「きくこと」は人が生きていく上での基本的な行為であり、また人と関係する上での土台でもあります。そして「きくこと」は研究や表現活動にとっても重要です。「語り」は、語り手と聞き手の相互行為による共同生成ですが、「語り」に多くの注目が集まり、「きくこと」はあまり議論されてきませんでした。多くの人たちにとって「きくこと」は受動的行為と思われているのかもしれませんし、「きくこと」は過去や現在に関わる行為であり、未来へつながるとはあまり考えられていないのかもしれません。本プロジェクトでは、「きくこと」を表現技法として位置づけ、その方法論や実践、哲学的意義にアプローチすることを通じて、自発的で創造的な行為として考えていきます。 前期は現在使用されなくなった公衆電話によるコミュニケーションをテーマにした「顔なしフォン問答」を企画、後期はメンバーの関心や研究に紐付けながら様々な活動を通して「きくこと」を実践し、考察を深めました。
“Listening” is a fundamental act of human life, and it is also the basis for connection between others. Thus, “the act of listening” is very important in research and expressionary activities. “Talking” is co-generated based on the mutual interaction between a speaker and listener, however, “talking” has garnered a lot of attention whilst “listening” has not really been discussed. This may perhaps be caused by “listening” appearing to be a passive act to many people, and due to how “listening” is an act that involves the past and present, and is hardly considered to be connected to the future. In this project, “listening” is positioned as an expressive technique, and through approaching its methodology, practice, and philosophical significance, we consider it going forward as a spontaneous and creative act. In the first term we planned the ”Faceless phone dialogue” which was based on the theme of communication using a no longer presently used public telephone. In the second term we practiced “listening” and deepened our study of the topic through various activities and by linking the interests and research of project members.
